Rustad’s “reproductive health” plan doesn’t mention abortion access or contraception at all

John Rustad has just announced a reproductive health plan that focuses on many things the BC NDP is already doing - including funding IVF treatment to help people have families.

What the plan doesn’t include is any mention of access to abortion or contraception.

This comes after several of Rustad’s candidates have openly criticized abortion access, including:

Bryan Tepper: A reporter recently discovered that if you tell anti-abortion group, RightNow, that you would like to help get anti-abortion candidates elected, they will connect you to the Bryan Tepper campaign.

Bruce Banman: sent a signal to the anti-choice March for Life group a day before their protest with a speech in the legislature about Mother’s Day that said motherhood begins “from the moment of conception.” (CTV, May 2024) He is endorsed by anti-abortion group Campaign Life Coalition, “based on comments from a media interview on May 9, 2024, where he acknowledged that life begins at conception.”

Harman Bhangu to the question ”What are your views on a woman's right to abortion?”: “I believe helping women in crisis and easing adoption. Also helping families to have children.” (Twitter) In the 2022 byelection in Surrey-South, he was endorsed by anti-abortion group Campaign Life Coalition: “Campaign Life Coalition has endorsed Mr. Harman Bhangu as the only pro-life, pro-family candidate in the race.”

Heather Maahs: “for the record, I’m Pro-Life, Opposed to Euthanasia, Pro-Pipelines, a card carrying Conservative, and has already been established and [sic] unapologetic Christian.”
